TESTED & TRUSTED
We test our repellent candles at New Mexico State University's Molecular Vector Physiology Lab. And what does “tested" really mean? It means that we don’t hesitate to get in the weeds—or in this case, a cage—until we get the results we know you need.
During our studies, the NMSU team traces mosquito movement either to or from a human volunteer. As olfactory-motivated creatures, mosquitoes move away from scents they don't like, such as our candles. The study concluded that our mosquito repellent candles successfully decreased human attractiveness (aka, the likelihood you'll get bitten) for up to thirty hours.
FAQs
How long is the burn time?
Each 9oz candle refill has a burn time of 30 hours. It is important that the top layer of wax completely melts during the first burn to minimize tunneling which will cause a less than satisfactory burn for future uses.
For the best life of your candles, we recommend letting the candle burn for at least 3 hours each time.
How do I maintain my wick?
For best results, and to prevent soot, be sure to trim the wick to ‘¼ inch before your initial lighting of the candle and each subsequent time after.
Can I burn this candle indoors?
While our candles are great at keeping away mosquitoes while you’re outdoors, the concentrated blend of oils make this product appropriate for outdoor use only.
How do I light and extinguish my candle?
To light, trim the wick to ¼ inch and use a lighter or match to light the wick. To extinguish you can blow the flame out or snuff the wick. Never use water and be sure the wax has cooled before you to trim the wick again or handle the candle.
How do I recycle my candle refills?
Be sure to check your local recycling regulations. Start by removing the remaining wax and throw away the wick and place your tin in the recycling bin.

Where should I store the candle when its not in use?
Our refillable patio candles can be kept outside. However, for best results we recommend keeping it out of rain as the bamboo lid may show signs of aging faster.
